The Nautical Parade is one of the most loved events of the Capitola Begonia Festival. Thousands of viewers young and old enjoy seeing begonia-laden barges float down Soquel Creek into the lagoon. Making a float is a labor of love and we have several teams who have entered a float year after year. The competition is great; at the same time, we welcome, and assist new teams in trying their hands at making a float.
Anyone can enter a float into the parade by submitting a Nautical Parade Entry Form, or emailing the requested information to our email address above. For all float builders, the Capitola Begonia Festival provides a standardized barge, florist wire to use to attach blossoms to the structure, a creekside location to assemble the float, and access to the private begonia fields to pick begonia blossoms. We also provide you with a Float Builder's Guide to assist you in the process. You just need to design your entry and do the labor! Once you have completed the Nautical Parade, the Capitola Begonia Festival will offset some of your costs with a grant check of $250. An additional incentive is our Charity Grants. Named Charities for our First,Second, and Third place entries will receive grants of $1000, $750, and $500 respectively. Charities for all other floats in the parade will receive a grant of $250.
